Future planning

A designer’s journey never ends, it’s a constant process of  exploration and refinement of skills to continuously adapt to societal standards for design and user needs.

The upcoming year marks the most critical chapter in aligning my skills and experiences with my long-term vision of contributing meaningfully to the smart wearables and fashion tech landscape. I see this period as a chance to connect the theory with real-world application, refining my technical expertise and understanding of how innovation meets market and societal needs.

To begin with, I am actively deepening my programming and systems design knowledge, with a particular focus on Machine Learning and Simulation through the Digital Twin Multidisciplinary CBL course and Intelligent Interactive Products CBL. My goal is to go beyond the basics and develop a more advanced understanding of how intelligent systems can enhance wearable technologies. This way, I ensure that the products I design are functional, responsive, adaptive, and truly user-centered.

In parallel, I aim to build a strong foundation in crafting and physical prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, sewing, and laser cutting, supporting my transition from digital concepts to tangible design. This hands-on approach will allow me better to navigate the interface between technological advancement and human-centered fashion, helping me identify where I can contribute most meaningfully in this evolving space.

Another critical focus area is business and entrepreneurship. I plan to strengthen my ability to identify market gaps, evaluate value propositions, and think strategically about product positioning. These skills are critical not just for working in larger companies but also for shaping my creative direction and bringing personal projects to life with a real-world impact.

In the first semester of my third year, I intend to pursue an internship in biomechanical design or fashion technology. Adapting to a professional environment will allow me to better understand the career path I want to follow while scoping out what further skills I need to develop within the remainder of my degree.

Should the internship path not materialize, I plan to apply for a Master's in Biomechanical Design at       TU Delft. In preparation for that, I would adapt my course trajectory to include a minor in mechanical engineering, ensuring I acquire the necessary technical background to be a strong candidate.

Lastly, I will continue to refine my approach to user research and societal relevance, applying structured user testing methods to enhance the quality and usability of my designs. By developing my design practice's analytical and empathic sides, I aim to create products that truly resonate with and serve the people they are made for.

Overall, this year will be one of deliberate growth: technically, creatively, and professionally. It will set the stage for a design career rooted in innovation, empathy, and impact.
